“OUR LIVES BEGIN TO END THE DAY WE BECOME SILENT ABOUT THINGS THAT MATTER.” MARTIN LUTHER KING
OCTOBER 9, 2018 ANNE AND DAVE MARSDEN COMMUNITY HEALTH SAFETY AND ACCESS ADVOCATES SPEAK OUT ABOUT THE DEATHLY SILENCE EMANATING FROM HALTON REGION AS CHAIR CARR CONTINUES TO FAIL TO HOLD LEGISLATED HALTON HEALTH BOARD MEETINGS THAT WILL ALLOW “THE MARSDENS” TO PRESENT THE EVIDENCE TO HALTON THAT SILENCE ASSOCIATED WITH INFECTIOUS DISEASE IS DEATHLY.
“The Marsdens” (see marsdens.ca upcoming book website) have repeatedly asked and Chair Carr and the current and past Chair of the Region Health Services Committee have repeatedly refused to allow them to speak at Committee, the Halton Health Board Meeting (legislated under the Health Protection and Promotion Act) or Council on the evidence that silence on infectious outbreaks in Halton is deathly.
“The Marsdens” wish to break the deathly silence that continues to surround the beginning of the largest bacterial gastroenteritis outbreak in the form of c-diff in Ontario, that emanated from those who knew of its existence (staff at a Halton, Burlington hospital JBMH) April 13, 2006 and The Chief Coroner’s Office of Ontario, May 15, 2006. A CBC News Report dated May 7, 2008 sets out a statement from the CEO of Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital that indicates those charged with managing such an outbreak had no knowledge of such until late January 2007. According to infectious disease expert Dr. Michael Gardam’s report filed with the Halton Public Health Department the outbreak contributed to 91 deaths.
A letter dated August 7, 2018 to Gary Carr, copied to Regional Clerk, Graham Milne, contains a request to allow “the Marsdens” to present the evidenced facts from their files that clearly demonstrates deathly silence was the main contributing factor to the death count being so high to a Halton Health Board Meeting. The evidence (three sheets of paper) lie alongside “Marsden” references from local, national and international organizations and respected individuals who have seen for themselves “Marsden” skills and experience being used to improve healthcare systems.
The second 10 minutes delegation is to call for an end to the silence as at July 11, 2018 around Chair Carr and all Regional Councillors knowledge of cases of encephalitis/meningitis in Halton being significantly higher than such rates in Ontario.
While Chair Carr has the power to call and hold his first Halton Health Board meeting a week prior to the upcoming election it is only the power of a properly informed community and government that will ensure he does so. Be assured that “the Marsdens” two ten minute delegations and Halton families registering their disapproval of this deathly silence by removing every Halton Regional Councillor and its present Chair by close of the Halton municipal election on October 22, 2018, will end the silence. A new day can dawn on October 23, 2018 that will see Halton families being assured the health of their families is back in safe hands.
